“Learning to wait is never an easy thing for any of us. We all want to get to where we are going, and we want to get there as quickly as possible. Amen! We become impatient a lot of the time and rush ahead, only to realize later that maybe we should have slowed down just a little and waited on the Lord.

I am always reminded of the story of the butterfly, and it goes something like this. There was a little girl who had a caterpillar that eventually formed a cocoon. One day, she noticed that the butterfly was getting ready to emerge into this beautiful and glorious world in which we all live. She watched and watched, but to her it seemed as though the little butterfly was struggling to break free from the cocoon. Thinking she was helping, she gently picked it up and tore the cocoon open to free the little butterfly.

But once it came out, only one of its wings had fully developed. The other wing had not yet formed the way it should have. You see, when a butterfly emerges from its cocoon, the struggle is part of the process. As it pushes its way out, the fluid in its body is forced into its wings, allowing them to fully develop. Amen!

Through the eyes of that little girl, she thought the butterfly was hurting, so she reached in to help. But instead of helping it, she unintentionally harmed it.

I think our journey and walk with the Lord is much the same. We often want to get to where God is leading us as quickly as possible. But in His infinite wisdom, the Lord knows what is best for each one of us. Perhaps when He looks down and sees us struggling, just as the little girl saw the butterfly struggling, He also knows that the struggle is developing something in us far greater than we could ever imagine.

So today, I pray that none of us rush ahead or run ahead of the Lord. Instead, I pray that we stay in step with Him, walking beside Him every step of the way. Amen! The Lord certainly wants us to reach the place He has prepared for us, but He also knows that we must grow before we get there.

We all have to go through trials and struggles. We have to experience those difficult seasons so we can learn to lean on and trust God like never before. You see, it doesn’t matter how long it takes us to arrive at the place where God is leading us. What truly matters is that when we get there, we are ready. Praise the Lord!

So let us continue forward, knowing that God is ordering our steps. As His Word says, “The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord” (Psalm 37:23). And when God looks down and sees that we are ready to fly, so to speak, He will open doors that no man can shut (Isaiah 22:22).

So keep growing, and never get ahead of God. Sometimes rushing ahead can end up hurting us instead of helping us. Remember, God’s timing is perfect. He is never early, and He is never late. So let us wait on the Lord, and as we wait, may we wait patiently, just as Psalm 40:1 reminds us.

Our Heavenly Father knows what is best. He knows our lives from beginning to end, and He can do anything, anywhere, and at any time that alone He chooses for He is God. Amen!”
