“This morning I was heading out to our backyard toward the field to take some bread to throw out for the birds and the crows to eat. And as I stood there, everything was so still and quiet that I grab my phone to take a picture of that moment. The snow was falling, and the earth was at rest. I love that with everything in me the stillness and the quietness. It is such a beautiful thing. Amen.
For in the Bible it tells us that quietness and confidence shall be our strength in life (Isaiah 30:15). The Lord also says that we should be still and know that He is God (Psalm 46:10). The Word tells us that better is a handful of quietness than having both hands full with painful and annoying frustration (Ecclesiastes 4:6). We are also instructed to study to be quiet and to do our own business (1 Thessalonians 4:11). Amen.
And for me, one of the verses I truly love is found in Job. It says, “When He, the Lord, gives quietness, who then can make trouble?” (Job 34:29). In other words, can our jobs, our relationships, our health, our finances, or our circumstances take that away? We can even take it further can the weather? Amen. For those storms of life come to each of us, both spiritually and naturally. Amen.
But our peace and quietness are the most wonderful commodities we hold in our innermost being. Praise the Lord. When we have God’s peace on the inside, it reflects on the outside both to others and to ourselves, as we live with ourselves every single day. Amen. Then we are not constantly in struggle or conflict, but we are secure and confident in Christ and in who He is to us. Amen.
We are at peace, in stillness and quietness, simply because of our faith and trust in the Lord. For our happiness and contentment bring healing to us, for the Bible says that a merry heart does good like a medicine, but a broken spirit dries up the bones (Proverbs 17:22). Amen.
So all in all, we are to be content with life. We are to make the best of it with our Father in heaven as we rely on Him, trust in Him, and trust in His ways, His will, and His plan for each of us and our lives. Amen. For godliness with contentment is a great gain, for we brought nothing into this world, and we can be assured that we will take nothing out of it. Amen. But if we have food and clothing, we are to be content (1 Timothy 6:6–7). Praise the Lord.
So I pray that we all have such a quiet confidence, such a stillness and peace within that inner person of ours that no matter what storm may blow our way in life, we will remain confident in Christ. Not shaken or stirred but simply still and quiet. Amen!”
