“What’s the clog?”

“Have you ever been right in the middle of doing something and thought, “I really shouldn’t be doing this..”? That happened to me twice last month.

The first time, it was late afternoon and I had made deviled eggs. I typically take the trash out in the evening, and I didn’t want those smelly eggshells to stink up the kitchen trash can. But..I figured, “My toilet flushes pretty well,” and—despite hearing a voice in my head saying, “Mandi, you shouldn’t do this”—I flushed the shells anyway. Of course, the toilet wouldn’t flush. It backed up. I tried Drano. That didn’t work. So we had to bust out that drill‑attachable drain tool to clear the clog. My husband, Erik, asked what happened. I sheepishly admitted: “I flushed eggshells.” He looked at me like, “You know better… What were you thinking?”

Then last night, something similar happened. After grilling, I went outside to clean up. Everything was ready to go, but it was dark and I didn’t want to walk down to dump the drip tray in the trash outside. So I came into the kitchen—and dumped it in the sink. Again, all the way through it, I heard, “Mandi, you shouldn’t dump that down the sink.” But I ignored it. Now the sink’s clogged. I haven’t told Erik yet, but he’ll say the same thing: “Honey, what are you thinking? You know better.”

This morning, I realized how often our lives feel that way too—like they’re clogged up. We know something’s off, something’s stopping the flow, something needs to break open so we can move freely and smoothly. Right now, I feel that way inside—like there’s a clog in me, in this season of change. Something has to drop away or be pried loose so I can step into the next stage of life.

It’s true—who we are is often invisible to us. Other people can see what we miss: the attitude, the anger, the things we won’t admit—our disobedience, ignoring the gentle, quiet nudges of the Holy Spirit. We hear only what we want to hear—because, well, we’re adults, right? We don’t need someone telling us what to do. But honestly… we don’t listen or obey as we should. I heard myself not to flush the eggshells or pour grill drippings down the sink. Yet I did it anyway.

So what is the clog in our lives? What small thing, if removed, could rearrange God’s goodness so it bursts into our lives? That should be our prayer: “Dear Lord, what is clogging my life?” We should yearn for growth and change. Our hearts, minds, spirits—they should flow freely with nothing blocking the blessing, the work God has for us.

If there’s something clogging you up—and you know it—ask the Lord to reveal it to you, then get to work removing it. So that you and I, dear friend, can flow freely—walking in step with God, in unity with Him—nothing clogging up what He’s planned.

Just like Zacchaeus—the chief tax collector, living wrongfully, clogged up by greed and selfishness—when Jesus came, his life was transformed. He climbed a tree just to catch a glimpse of Jesus. Jesus called him down, invited Himself into Zacchaeus’s home, and salvation came that very day. Zacchaeus repented, pledged half his goods to the poor, and promised four‑fold restitution to anyone he’d defrauded (Luke 19:1–10). He let go of his clog, and his heart freely overflowed with living water from Christ.

Similarly, when we listen, let go of what’s clogging us… we too will freely flow for the Master. We’ll be about our Father’s business, going out doing good wherever we go (Luke 2:4)..Amen!”

“For it is in His name, Jesus’ name, that I do ask and pray..Amen and Amen..Be blessed today my dear sweet friends and remember wherever you go and whatever you do, Be a light for our Father, Much love to you all, Mandi ❤️
