“So a few years back Anthony told me, ‘Mom, people just keep hammering the same nail into the same casket.’ Amen. He explained that when something is supposed to be dead and gone in someone’s life, it’s gone. Praise the Lord! We’re ‘not’ going to get anything else from it. Amen.
And he’s absolutely right. How many of us know that God says when He forgives, He casts our sins away from us? As Scripture says, ‘As far as the east is from the west, so far has He removed our transgressions from us’ (Psalm 103:12). It goes on to say that these sins are never to be brought up against us again. Amen!
But somehow, we forget that—especially when we get angry or upset. In those moments, we dig up old wounds, bringing up everything and anything we can against another person who may have wronged us or made a mistake. It’s like hammering that nail into the casket again—or even pulling it out—when those things are supposed to be dead.
The casket represents death. That thing, or those things, others have done against us are supposed to be gone—dead and buried. Yet we dig them up and rehash them. We bring back old conversations, old mistakes, and past hurts. In doing so, we relive our pain, pulling the bandage off a wound that should already be healed. And when we do that, we begin to bleed again. Amen!
Isn’t that exactly what the enemy wants? He wants us trapped in our past. He never wants us living in the present or looking ahead to the future. He wants us distracted by what’s behind us. But here’s the truth: digging up old nails from a casket—those things that should stay dead—does nothing good for us. It steals from us. It takes away the present and all that the Lord is doing right now in our lives.
The Lord is always moving us forward, but when we focus on the past, we stop ourselves. We don’t gain anything new from something that’s dead. The Lord has already dealt with it, just as we have. So why would we go back and pick it up again? Dead things don’t bring life. Jesus is our life. Amen!
We know the enemy is a liar and the father of lies (John 8:44). He doesn’t control us—we control ourselves. And yes, we may fall short of the glory of the Lord at times, but when we hear God’s Word and His correction, that’s the moment we need to listen and obey. The Lord is always speaking to His children, and it’s our obedience that brings victory.
So don’t be deceived. Anytime we find ourselves talking about the past, let’s immediately change the conversation. Praise the Lord! Let’s ask Him for forgiveness and move forward. Let’s shake the dust off our feet (Matthew 10:14) and embrace this new day the Lord has made. We will rejoice and be glad in it (Psalm 118:24).
For it is in His name, Jesus’ name, that I do ask and pray..Amen & Amen..Be blessed today my dear sweet friends and remember wherever you go and whatever you do, Be a light for our Father, Much love to you all, Mandi
