This morning, as Erik and I were talking, we realized that so many of us say this little phrase—and even live it out in our lives. But when we do, we often end up defeating ourselves in so many ways. That little phrase is simply this: What if? Amen. Nearly anytime something new or unique is presented to us, we immediately start questioning everything, and our questions almost always start with “what if?” Amen!
Usually, it’s all negative “what ifs,” right? What if I fail? What if I don’t make it? What if we crash? What if we lose it all? What if it’s not God’s will? What if I make a complete fool of myself? Amen. What if the doctors make a mistake? What if I get lost? What if they say no? You see where I’m going with this, Amen? This is what we do. We defeat the new opportunities right in front of us—all because of the “what ifs.” And most of the time, we never go through with it because those “what ifs” aren’t positive; they’re almost always worst-case scenarios. Amen!
And I thought to myself: I wonder how many great things we’ve missed out on in our lives simply because of negative “what ifs.” Amen. We need to have confidence not only in the Lord but also in ourselves and our choices. We can’t live our lives seeing only the bad side of things. Instead, we should be brave and adventurous. We should be willing, like Peter, to step out of our boats and walk on water toward the Lord (Matthew 14:28-30). Amen!
We live our lives only once, and if we keep talking ourselves out of every blessing and every opportunity presented to us, then we’ll miss out on so much of life and living. Amen. So, today, if something is presented to you—if you have the opportunity to do something different or adventurous—be brave. Trust the Lord. Have fun, have faith, and say yes. Amen. Because with that one yes will come many more yeses in your life, and life will be so much better, and you’ll be glad you chose to say yes instead of always saying no and asking “what if?” Amen.
For it is in His name, Jesus’ name, that I do ask and pray. Amen and Amen. Be blessed today my dear sweet friends, and remember wherever you go and whatever you do, Be a light for our Father, Much love to you all, Mandi
