“Yesterday, I saw a family sitting on a bench, and their little boy, who must have been about a year and a half old, kept falling down. Each time he fell, his mom and dad would gently encourage him to get back up. So, he would get up, walk a bit more, and then fall down again. But every time, they’d tell him, ‘Get back up,’ and he would. As I stood there watching and listening, my mind started reflecting on life. From an early age, we’re taught to get back up when we fall down, and when we’re little, it seems so easy. We fall countless times, but we don’t give it much thought. We simply get back up and move on, as if falling was just part of the process.
We’d laugh, keep playing, and continue with whatever we were doing. Oh, how I wish we could hold onto that mindset as adults. If only, when life knocked us down, we could get back up just as easily, without wallowing in self-pity or dwelling on how we’ve been knocked down. We wouldn’t sit there replaying the fall over and over in our minds. Instead, we would get up and keep moving forward, no matter how many times we stumbled in a day. Sure, as children, we might cry for a moment, but we’d quickly get over it. And I’m not saying we shouldn’t cry if we need to or take a moment to rest, but the key is not staying down. If we don’t get up, we’ll continue to be attacked, continue to lie there, stuck.
We won’t move forward as we should. You see, the enemy wants us to quit. He wants us to give up, to never reach the place God has prepared for us. But let me tell you this: We are in a race, and we are to run with confidence, as the Bible says, ‘Looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith’ (Hebrews 12:2). It also says, ‘You were running well. Who hindered you?’ (Galatians 5:7). Maybe some of us need to ask ourselves that question: What has hindered me from running my race with endurance? What has stopped me?
The past is a place where nothing changes—it remains the same. We can’t run while looking back, for Jesus said, ‘No man, having put his hand to the plow and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God’ (Luke 9:62). We want to finish our race, the one the Lord has set before us. We want to come to the end and say, ‘I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith’ (2 Timothy 4:7). Amen!
So, if life has knocked you down, and if things seem unfair, I encourage you to get back up, keep moving forward, and hold fast to Jesus. Run your race, knowing that this world is not our home. Choose to be like that little boy who kept getting up, because quitting or stopping is not an option. There’s a work to do for the Lord, and He needs us to be part of that work.
So let’s press on towards the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus (Philippians 3:14). We can make it, and we will make it, as long as we remember that falling down doesn’t mean staying down. It just means we get back up and keep moving forward, putting one foot in front of the other, doing our very best for Jesus Christ.
I love the saying: ‘If you can’t fly, then run. If you can’t run, then walk. If you can’t walk, then crawl. But whatever you do, just keep moving forward.’ It’s not how you start that matters, but how you finish. And how we finish matters greatly. My prayer is that each of us finishes well for our Lord. Amen!
For it is in His name, Jesus’ name, that I do ask and pray. Amen and Amen! Be blessed today my dear friends and remember wherever you go and whatever you do, Be a light for our Father, Much love to you all,
Mandi.”
