As a parent, I know that my son is one of my top priorities in my life. And even as they are older as a parent your children are always on the top of your list. Always on your mind. Everyday of your lives. Amen! And for me everything I do for him comes from my heart, and I strive to do it to the best of my ability because he means the world to me. In the same way, our relationship with the Lord reflects this love and dedication. God loves each of us as if there were only one of us. Everything He does is for our good, and everything He gives us is what He knows we need at the moment, at that specific time in our lives. Our Lord knows what is best for each of us. He may not always give us what we want or when we want it, but He provides us with what He knows we can handle.
Many people, when they have everything they desire in life, never truly reach a point where they feel the need or desire for more of God. They become content because nothing seems to go wrong for them. Similarly, as parents, we give our children what we feel they can handle at that point in their lives. We don’t always give them everything they want. Sometimes, we teach them that hard work and persistence pay off in life. We teach them to work hard and understand that life involves having patience as they wait for what they are working towards. As the scripture says, “In due season we shall reap if we faint not” (Galatians 6:9). Amen.
Regardless of what we receive or don’t receive, my hope and prayer is that we are always thankful for everything we have and every blessing in our lives. A heart of thankfulness brings a life of happiness, true, and lasting contentment. We are told to be thankful for everything in our lives (1 Thessalonians 5:18). The Lord knows that many of us might turn away from Him if we had all the money or riches we desired. Some might even stop praying if they were never sick or felt bad. God knows when we’ve reached a point where, even if we never received another blessing, we would still praise Him and seek His face simply because we love Him—not because of what He has done or does for us daily, but because of who He is. Amen.
I often think of the story in the Word of God where the son asked his father for his portion of the inheritance. The father was hesitant to give it to him because he knew his son wasn’t quite ready, but he eventually gave in. The son took his inheritance and went off to live his life as he pleased, making poor choices and wasting all he had. He ended up with nothing and found himself in a pigpen, eating the same food as the pigs. In that moment, he came to his senses and decided he would rather be a servant in his father’s house if only his father would take him back. So, the son returned home. While he was still a long way off, his father saw him coming and ran to meet him with open arms. He welcomed him back, placed a ring on his hand, and threw a big celebration to welcome him home again (Luke 15:11-24). Amen.
Our Lord knows where we are in life and what we need, whether we are close to Him or have drifted away. God is always waiting for us to come back to Him with open arms. The Bible says that the angels in heaven rejoice over one sinner who repents and returns home (Luke 15:10). So today, whatever you have or don’t have, be thankful for what you do have. Remember, if we can be faithful over little, the Lord says He will make us rulers over much (Matthew 25:23). He knows what we can and cannot handle, and when the Lord sees fit to give us more or even less in our lives, we can trust that He knows what is best. Let us trust in Him and His ways, for His ways are perfect.
For it is in His name, Jesus’ name, that I ask and pray. Amen and Amen. Be blessed today, my dear friends, and remember, wherever you go and whatever you do, be a light for our Father. Much love to you all, Mandi
